We have expanded our CafePress shop, where we sell linguistics posters, apparel, teddy bears, and more. By popular demand, we’ve added new versions of many of our classic items — “Mom’s Favorite Data Generator” can now also be “Dad’s Favorite Data Generator” — as well as entirely new items like mugs, mousepads, and shirts featuring the IPA vowel chart. It's the perfect place to find gifts for that special linguist in your life!

Come see a movie
Linguistics at the Sundance Film Festival? We just heard about this a few days ago. The Linguists is a new movie about the extinction of languages around the world, following David Harrison and Gregory Anderson as they go on three expeditions to document languages that are nearly gone. Hollywood Reporter loved it. The movie is playing three times in the next couple of weeks around Boston, a free screening at MIT and twice as part of the International Film Festival Boston:
April 24, 7:00-8:30 pm, MIT, free screening and discussion with David Harrison (details)
April 26, 12:00-1:15 pm, Brattle Theatre (details)
April 28, 5:15-6:30 pm, Somerville Theatre (details)
If you’d like a free ticket for the April 28 showing at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square courtesy of Cascadilla Press, send us an e-mail by April 17 with your name and mailing address. (If you did not receive a reply from us, post a comment here.) There are a limited number of tickets that we can buy for this showing, so please only request a ticket if you will definitely use it.
Update: We’ve placed our ticket order, and we’ll be mailing out the tickets to everyone who requested them on April 22. See you at the movie!

Environmental news
The book printer we use for offset printing has been widely recognized as a leader in environmental responsibility in the printing industry. We were delighted to learn that they now offer FSC-certified paper (cover and text) which we’ll be using for offset print runs starting this month with the forthcoming BUCLD 32 Proceedings paperbacks. That’s an immediate benefit of over 400,000 pages shifted over to FSC-certified paper. We hope our digital book printers will make a similar shift soon.

Popular items for the new school year
As a new school year begins, here's a roundup of several popular Cascadilla Press items for students and professors.
Surviving Linguistics: A Guide for Graduate Students is now on its 6th printing in just over a year! This helpful guide is making life easier for linguistics students everywhere.
Our syntax font Arboreal is a great way to create syntactic trees, and works with the latest MacOS 10.4 and Windows Vista operating systems, as well as with older Mac and Windows systems. Arboreal for Windows (ArborWin) and Arboreal for Mac have some differences, so make sure you let us know whether you need the Windows or Mac version when you order.
For those teaching the IPA, we offer IPA Bingo for large classes and Magnetic Phonetics 2 for small groups. We also offer sets of convenient IPA reference cards you can hand out to your students, where each card shows the entire current IPA chart. And what room is truly well-adorned without an office-sized (14" x 20") or classroom-sized (23" x 35") IPA chart poster?

This volume contains 16 papers selected from the 37th Annual Conference on African Linguistics (ACAL 37), which was held at the University of Oregon on April 6-9, 2006. The papers included are significant for increasing the database of detailed studies of individual African languages. Several of the papers deal with contact among multiple languages and consequent areal effects, as well as language endangerment under contact. Additionally, all of the papers in the first section of the volume, plus three of the morphosyntax papers, are important for improving our understanding of historical dynamics in the languages and language families of the African continent.
